Objectives:

1. Students will learn the law of superposition.
2. Students will learn how sedimentary rocks are arranged.
3. Students will learn how to predict the arrangement and inclination of rock layers far underground using clues at the surface.
4. Students will learn the common geologic symbols for sedimentary rocks.
5. Students will make a cross section using the common symbols for sedimentary rocks to label them.
6. Students will learn how the rock layers of northern Illinois are arranged.
